Linkin Park has been around for well over a decade now and with the impending launch of their seventh album, not counting live and collaboration albums, it's an exciting time to be a Linkin Park fan.
Their last album debuted back in 2012 in the form of Living Things and now Linkin Park is releasing their reinterpretation album for it called RECHARGED. This is the second time they have released a reinterpretation album of a previously released record and it reminds us so much of what REANIMATION brought us back in 2002.
That reinterpretation for the band was the genius way to polish off their first hit album Hybrid Theory. The same can be said for Linkin Park's latest releaseRECHARGED.
When we compare how the two reinterpretation albums differ from each other, RECHARGED certainly has a much stronger electronic, techno vibe thanREANIMATION did. Both albums do have tracks that resemble each other from a tone and instrumental standpoint, but for the most part, they are unrelated when it comes to beat.
Personally, Living Things was one of the best albums Linkin Park has done in a long time, not to say their previous work was bad. However, Living Things brought us back to some of the older Linkin Park sounds, just in a more evolved form.
The tracks that have been reinterpreted onRECHARGED all have logical and practical beats that you would expect renewed versions of the originals to have.
For example, Victimized was an insane song on Living Things, period. In RECHARGED, it is still insane, but in a manner that makes sense, if that makes sense.
Another one to talk about is Roads Untraveled. While the original song is a slower track, Linkin Park did a nice job of adding the type of beat that made sense. It wasn't something totally out of control. It was faster, and consistent, but it did not throw off the flow of the song.
If you were one of the individuals who pre-ordered Living Things and received the monthly remixes from the band a couple years ago, you will recognize a track or two. One of the most apparent was the reinterpretation for Powerless.
Powerless was one of the first few remix tracks that Linkin Park put out, and it is a personal favorite. It's good to see them add that track to the record.
If we were to go ahead and pick a favorite track on the album, that is difficult because they are all so compelling. But this isn't Switzerland where we don't make a choice, the best track on RECHARGED has got to be the Until It Breaks (Money Mark Headphone Remix) track.
There are so many reasons why, but the diversity in the instruments were incredible as well as the beat as an overall package. The original version on Living Things was a terrific display of Mike's skills and this new interpretation is the best track on the record.
Overall, RECHARGED is a fantastic, logical progression of what Living Things delivered and it will leave Linkin Park fans wanting more, once again.
We can't wait to hear the next album from Linkin Park, which we've been told is slated to debut sometime next year.
